Elton Frazier gets Sponge Bob in the win column.  Norfolk N’ Chance and Swagged Out stay locked atop League B.

Buffalo, NY-  With only two more weeks remaining in the regular season Kronies Jamfest participants held nothing back in week 8.  In game one Sponge Bob Square Pants brought out the guns, introducing Elton Frazier to WNY’s #1 basketball league, Kronies Jamfest 2.  It was a hard fought match against R.I.P. Ent, who were coming off a big win in Week 7 against Court Justice.   Darcell Thomas had another strong game leading R.I.P. Ent with 19 points.  But it wasn’t enough to slow down Sponge Bob Square Pants who got big games from Jon Burgio (14 points) and Adam LaFluer (16 points) to go along with Frazier’s 26 points and went on to win the game 73-64.

In the second game Norfolk N’ Chance looked to stay locked atop the division against the WWIAFTM, who have been victim to a number of losses in really close games.  Dean Antalik (28 points) showed no signs of slowing down as he looks to challenge Jerry Shanley for the scoring title.  The Tub Men had an off day shooting and couldn’t come back from a slow start offensively.  Their top shooters Gian Fernandez and Jasen Ineson were both held to single digits as Norfolk N’ Chance pulled out the win to stay locked atop the division, 52-38.

The Billies were looking to move up in the standings with a win over Ebony & Ivory, who were coming off a tough loss to Swagged Out in Week 7.  Both teams were locked at 19 at the half, but things weren’t looking good for Ebony & Ivory after power forward Jay Gelsomino went down with a blown out knee and shortly thereafter sharpshooter Will Castro went down with a sprained ankle.  Team captain Tim Book and swing-man Randy Martin did their best to keep Ebony & Ivory in it, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Richie Lynch (13 points) and Mark Ward (14 points) as they led the Billies to their third win of the season, 49-44.

In Week 8’s game of the week, division leading Court Justice faced off against a red hot Shining Force.  Shining Force got off to a hot start behind the strong play of Chris Meyers who scored a season high 21 points and took a 40-29 lead into the half.  But in the second half they seemed to run out of steam allowing Court Justice to get right back into the game.  Ed Stephens led Court Justice with 24 points, as he looks poised to make a run at the scoring title in League A, which was enough in the end to squeeze out a victory and get the win against the Shining Force, 75-70.

In the final game of the evening, the third place Flint Tropics looked to make up some ground in the division against Swagged Out, but came out flat in the first half handing Swagged Out a quick double digit lead.  They got it going offensively in the second half after Andy Tate (17 points) threw down a big one handed dunk and got within two points in the latter part of the half, but couldn’t manage to slow down Jerry Shanley (30 points) who did his damage in the paint, from the free throw line and behind the arch and led Swagged Out to victory 62-51.

Week 9 Game of the Week

In Game 2 at 4pm Sponge Bob Square Pants takes on Shining Force, who just had their three game win streak snapped, but remain the sleeper hit of the league.  Sponge Bob Square Pants will look to build some continuity with its team in the last two games of the season as their roster has been in flux throughout the season.  Both teams acknowledged that this game will be a barometer to determine just how ready they are for the playoffs.  Win or lose, Shining Force versus Sponge Bob is going to be one game you don’t want to miss.
