Moe Bailey goes for the monster put-back dunk against Paper Beetch

Court Justice locks up the division with win over Paper Beetch.  Healthy Buffalo shocks Swagged Out in 19 point rout.

Buffalo, NY–  Kronies Jamfest 2 was back in action this past Sunday after a week off for Labor Day.  Despite the time off most of the teams looked sharp and appeared to have raised the level of intensity to a new level.  In game one R.I.P. Ent faced off against Victor’s who were led by Chris Watson, who scored a career high 27 points and continues to play well for Victor’s, who were without captain Louis Carey.  Darcell Thomas had an excellent first half scoring 17 of his 22 in the half, but in the second half R.I.P. Ent went cold and couldn’t stop Vaughn Williams (25 points) who went four for five from three point range in the second half andled Victor’s to victory, 86-71.

In game 2, Sponge Bob Square Pants took on Shining Force in the Game of the Week.  Unfortunately the game didn’t live up to the hype as Sponge Bob came out shorthanded allowing Shining Force to take an early eight point lead, before the rest of their teammates showed up.  In an interesting turn of events, by the time the rest of their squad showed up Shining Force’s Jonathan Meyers got ejected after arguing a call and then continuing to taunt the referee, leaving the Shining Force shorthanded to play against Sponge Bob for the rest of the game.  While they played hard, it wasn’t enough to stop Elton Frazier (23 points), Adam LaFluer (21 points), and Marcus Thompson who scored a season high 20 points, leading Sponge Bob to a 71-59 point victory.

In the 5pm game division leading Norfolk N’ Chance played Ebony & Ivory.  Norfolk N’ Chance came out firing behind the one-two punch of Jon Plail (21 points) and Dean Antalik (16 points) leading Norfolk N’ Chance to a 35-18 point lead at the half.  In the second half Ebony & Ivory heated up behind the strong shooting of Will Castro (19 points) but it was too little, too late as Norfolk N’ Chance cruised to their fifth consecutive victory 57-44.

The 6pm game was a nail-biter between the Billies and the Flint Tropics, who were playing without their starting center Joe Kassel.  The Billies got off to a great start behind the excellent play of Mark Ward who scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half, leading the Billies to a 34-28 halftime lead.  In the second half Nick Pfohman (15 points) got it going shooting 6-9 from the field in the half, but the Billies managed to squeeze out a close one 54-52.

In the 7pm game Paper Beetch took on first place Court Justice.  Paper Beetch started hot behind the balanced attack of Jordan Vaccaro (12 points), John Catanzaro (19 points) and Nick DiPalma (12 points) taking a three point lead into the half without a single first half point from their leading scorer Jon Papincak.  In the second half Paper Beetch continued to build on their lead taking a commanding ten point lead into the final nine minutes.  At this point Paper Beetch started to fall apart as Court Justice woke up and pushed the tempo, moving to a full court press on defense, which led to a number of turnovers and fast break points.  Ed Stephens had another excellent game scoring all but three of his 17 points in the second half, to complement a number of steals and assists down the final stretch.  Final Score: Court Justice 67, Paper Beetch 57.

In the final game of the evening last place Healthy Buffalo played Swagged Out who are running neck and neck with Norfolk N’ Chance for first place in the division.  Swagged Out was playing without big men Ward Wilson and Mark Vanoy, in addition to league leading scorer Jerry Shanley, who suffered a knee injury in a non-BSWA sanctioned event and could be down for an extended period of time.  Healthy Buffalo went into attack mode right from the opening tip, which was won by Nicholas Battaglia for the first time in his career.  Healthy Buffalo took advantage of the size mismatch throughout as Marvin Haskins (10 points), Franklin Jackson (9 points) and Terence ‘Bermuda’ Dill (31 points) all had big games in the paint.  It was a long night for Swagged Out who lost 70-51 and hope to regroup for the playoffs.
