After knocking down seven three's Nick Pfohman decides to take it to the hole.

UPB is the last undefeated team standing in the East.  VeryAggressiveGuys fall to 0-3 in the West.

Buffalo, NY-  Kronies Jamfest 5 is just getting started but already almost every team has tasted defeat.  Two-time champions R.I.P. Ent fell to 1-2 with an 83-66 loss to the Spartans, who picked up their first win.  Mitch Reese carried the offensive load for R.I.P., but it wasn’t enough to hold off Ron Malicki (23 points) and the Spartans who looked real strong in Week 3 after a weak start to the season.  Joshua Laureano chipped in another 20 points for the Spartans.  The Spartans will look to stay hot next week against a well rested IMPROV team that is coming off the bye week and hopes to see the return of All-Star Darrik Bloomfield.

Returning champs Court Justice are also off to a rough start losing in Week 3 to Norfolk N’ Chance, who are dreaming of a KJ5 championship with their retooled roster.  Dean Antalik was impressive from beginning to end, scoring a game high 24 points while looking to solidify his place as the All-Time Kronies Jamfest scoing leader.  Bryan Dorothy made his season debut for Norfolk N’ Chance and kicked in 12 points in a solid performance.

Matthew Hart and Elton Frazier apply the defensive pressure to Adam Weir.

The Week 3 Game of the Week pitted the last two undefeated teams in the East as UPB challenged Sponge Bob Square Pants.  While UPB  could not stop the offensive attack of Sponge Bob, they were able to match them.  A confident Shane Canahai proclaimed, “This is our year.  We already beat the teams that won the league for the past three season, we’re taking home the championship this season.”  He backed up his words by scoring 26 points, taking sole possession of the scoring chase in the East, and leading UPB to a 93-90 point win.  Elton Frazier had his best game of the season scoring a team high 30 for Sponge Bob, while Kronies Jamfest newcomer Adam Weir had another strong game with 27 points.

Ugot Kirbstomped was hungry for it’s first victory after having two weeks to dwell on their opening week drubbing by IMPROV and seemed to right the ship with a strong performance against the Hoosiers.  Terence Dill carried the load for Kirbstomped, scoring a game high 28 points, and taking home Player of the Week honors.  Efrain Rodriguez complemented Dill on the offensive end with a season high 22 points.  The Hoosiers look to regroup next week with a big match-up against Court Justice.

In the 5pm slot Reloaded looked to stay undefeated against Joe Catalano and White Men Can’t Jump.  Carlos Hawkins managed to get his points in this one, but a balanced attack by White Men Can’t Jump put them over the top as sharpshooter Catalano was the only player on White Men not to reach double digits in scoring.  Steve Musso put on an inspiring show leading his team with 20 points, while inflicting damage from all over the court while handing Reloaded their first loss in route to their 78-69 victory.

The Billies looked to stay in the hunt in the West despite another week without BSWA legend Mark Ward, who missed the game for personal reasons.  Justin Andreozzi carried the load for the Billies scoring a game high 24 points, while handing Swagged Out their third consecutive loss.

In the 7pm game Dave Laudero and Geeks N’ Sneaks locked up their first W of the season with the return of Randy Martin (19 points) and Shawn Satarian (20 points) who both missed the Sneaks Week 2 loss.  Adam Brasky poured his heart out on the court in this one leading Points In A Hurry with 20 points, but the points came mostly in a slow trickle for the rest of the squad as Points In A Hurry joined Swagged Out and the VeryAggressiveGuys in the basement in the West at 0-3.

The U.H. big-man Andrew Alfieri scores one of his game high 14 points.

After being snubbed in last weeks writeup about the Western Conferences elite teams, The U.H. came out with a chip on their shoulder determined to show the world that they are the team to beat in the West.  Concrete appeared to be the team to beat in the first two weeks, but The U.H. picked them apart in a defensive battle.  The U.H. newcomer Travis Craig had an impressive performance stepping in for an injured Matt Pugh, who went down with a severely sprained ankle in Week 2.  Craig was all over the court, pushing the pace on the offensive end and making a number of hustle plays on defense leading The U.H to a 46-37 victory and sole possession of first place in the West.

The VeryAggressiveGuys were looking to get their season back on track against Nick Pfohman and the Flint Tropics after an 0-2 start to the season in the 9pm game.  This game turned into a one man show as Nick Pfohman exploded for 28 points, including seven three-pointers, five of which came in the second half, putting to a halt a number of rally attempts by the VeryAggressiveGuys and wrapping up the 68-59 victory.  The VeryAggressiveGuys need to do some soul searching after their 0-3 start to the season as they look nothing like the champions they were in season’s three and four.  Who will step up in Week 4 to turn their season around?

Lenny Frears knocks down the game tying shot as time expires in regulation.

Those who have been lucky enough to catch Healthy Buffalo’s first couple games will all agree on one thing, they didn’t lack for excitement.  After a last second victory in week one and a heart breaking triple overtime loss in Week 2, Healthy Buffalo was looking to put on a show in Week 3, but could they swing it against undefeated Practical Modern Basketball?  Captain Lenny Frears was seeking redemption after missing a potential game winning three-pointer in Week 2 and vowed not to let it happen again in Week 3.  Darren Kresge was on top of his game for PMB leading the squad with 16 points.  But once again the game came down to one last shot for Lenny Frears, who knocked down the game tying shot to send the game into overtime, where Shawn Dotzler put the finishing touches on the game scoring seven points in OT to lock up the 61-57 point victory and send PMB home with their first loss of the season.

After three weeks of play KJ5 is off to an impressive start.  More so than ever, each division is wide open.  It’s anybodies guess who will take home the title for KJ5.  The action resumes this Sunday.  Don’t miss it.
