Raw Dawgs roll to their sixth straight win with one week to play before the playoffs, while the THE Goon Squad knocks off Phi Slamma Jamma to take control of the final playoff spot in the West.

Buffalo, NY-  In the eighth week of action in the Champions League the Raw Dawgs rolled to their sixth consecutive win, to follow their sole loss of the season on opening day to Court Justice, while the West remains wide open with the top four teams all within striking distance of first place with one week to play.

In the highly anticipated match-up between THE Goon Squad and Phi Slamma Jamma, captain Mario DeNicola (12 points) put forth what was perhaps his most inspiring performance of the season, making his impact felt on both the offensive and defensive end of the court while leading THE Goon Squad to 49-43 win and putting them in pole position to lock up the final playoff spot in the West.

Mark Ward Healthy BuffaloIn game two the Billies got back into form after suffering a heartbreaking loss in week seven.  Despite trailing 37-33 at the half, the Billies never lost their focus and waited for the right time to strike and lock up the win.  Mark Ward led all scorers with 28 points and was nearly unstoppable during the final minutes of the game, while scoring 11 of the Billies final 15 points and leading the Billies to a 71-62 victory.  Although their is still another week of regular season action, the Billies seem to have already shifted into playoff mode.

The U.H. were looking for redemption against Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hand of the VeryAggressiveGuys in week seven.  It looked like they were going to pull off the upset win after taking a 36-29 lead into the second half, but in the second half Brandon Dudek (27 points) took over scoring 14 second half points while leading Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy to a 57-56 win.

The VeryAggressiveGuys continued to impress with another solid win over the Fastbreakers, 60-49.  While this week’s game wasn’t as easy as their week seven victory, they did it with the same patented formula of distributing the ball offensively, combined with the leagues finest team defense.  However the win came at a heavy cost as Jake Walkow suffered a potentially season-ending hamstring injury.  Luckily the VeryAggressiveGuys will have a bye week to end the regular season, giving Jake and company an extra week to rest up before the playoffs.

In the first Eastern Division action of the day, R.I.P. Ent got back into the win column with 61-52 win over a floundering Norfolk N’ Chance squad.  Phil Lindsey led all scorers with 19 points, as he continues to step up his game in the absence of Mitch Reese, who continues to recover from a knee injury.

Jon Burgio Healthy BuffaloIn the Week 8 Game of the Week, Court Justice got back on track with a win over Jon Burgio and Sponge Bob Square Pants.  The loss left Sponge Bob with a franchise worst five regular season losses, while leaving them at risk of missing the playoffs for the first time ever.  Moe Bailey led all scorers with 22 points in the 75-74 win.

In the 9pm game the red hot Raw Dawgs locked up their sixth consecutive win over CKNY, who have hit a bit of a rough patch of their own.  The game started off with one of the finest shooting displays in the history of the league, as both team made about ten baskets each before missing their first shot.  Kevin Fretthold led the Raw Dawgs with 19 points in the win.  CKNY will finish off their season next week against R.I.P. Ent with the chance to lock up as high as the third season for the playoffs, despite their late season struggles.

In the final game of the night Concrete locked up their fourth win of the season over Buffalo’s Finest.  Jarred Reed scored a team high 20 points, but it was not enough to to overcome the team effort by Concrete.

Next week is the final week of the regular season!  Who will be left out of the playoffs?  Who’s the favorite in the West?  How about the East?  The action starts next Sunday at 3pm.  Don’t miss it!
