Kronies Jamfest 3 comes to a climactic finish, completing what was definitely the best season yet.

Buffalo, NY- The conclusion to Buffalo’s #1 basketball league was nothing short of epic. Three of the four championship games went right down to the wire and the inaugural All-Star game delivered a star studded affair of Buffalo’s finest ball players.

The first game of the day was the Eastern Conference Consolation Bowl. DJ Dovey Ent came hungry, but would it be enough to knock off the Kronies Jamfest 2 scoring champion Marc Antecki and the Hoosiers? Both teams started the game on fire as Jordan Vaccaro (14 points) knocked down four three pointers in the first half, while Marc Antecki scored 16 of his 26 points in the first half. In the second half both teams locked down on defense as the Hoosiers held on to their slim lead to pull out the win and become the Eastern Conference Consolation Bowl Champions!

Nick Battaglia drives to the basket against Tom Dagonese

Next up was the battle for the Western Conference Consolation Bowl as John Bowen and Healthy Buffalo looked to slow down Team Rocket who were peaking at just the right time. Nick DeMonte did his best to make a case for an appearance in next seasons three point shootout with an incredible performance from behind the stripe, knocking down 5 0f 6 attempts, while All-Stars John Bowen (28 points) and Gary Lee (12 points) also had strong outings. Lenny ‘Lenniforous’ Frears (19 points) continued his strong play and Team Rocket captain Nick Battaglia scored a season high seven points, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Healthy Buffalo as they pulled out the 62-46 point win.

By 3pm the Consolation Bowls were determined and it was on to the winners bracket. First up was the Western Conference championship between the VeryAggressiveGuys and number one seeded Team First, who were looking to put an exclamation point on a storybook season. The VeryAggressiveGuys jumped out to a 20-8 lead as a number of steals led to quick buckets on the other end. Mike Bennett, still upset with the snub on the All-Stat ballot, played another excellent game leading the VeryAggressiveGuys with 23 point. Bashir Ansari (10 points) did his best to get Team First back in the game, but they couldn’t quite manage to overcome the early deficit as the VeryAggressiveGuys brought home the massive 36″ Kronies Jamfest Championship trophy in a 54-48 point win.

Next up was the highly anticipated match-up between reigning Kronies Jamfest champions R.I.P. Ent and Court Justice. This one was sure to be like a buzz-saw smashing into semi as smack talking James Mallory locked heads against the no-nonsense tough guy Darcell Thomas. Both squads came ready to play for this one and after twenty minutes of play the score was knotted at 27 a piece. From the beginning this game was destined to go down to the last possession and sure enough it was. With five seconds left R.I.P. Ent in-bounded the ball to Mitch Reese, who has scored a number of game winning baskets over the course of the season. Reese got off a good shot with with three seconds remaining but it rimmed out and went right to Darcell Thomas who tipped it in as time expired to pull off the miraculous win and became the first two-time champions in Kronies Jamfest history.

The Inaugural Kronies Jamfest All-Star Game

The Kronies Jamfest All-Star Game MVP Elton Frazier

Following the championship games was the in inaugural Kronies Jamfest All-Star game, of which ten players were selected by a popular fan vote with online polling and the other ten were hand picked by BSWA staff and administrators. The whole affair was a bonafide success as the leagues top players faced off in a friendly match that was low on defense and high long range three pointers, behind-the-back passes, and mind blowing slam dunks. Matt Tucholski threw down a monster alley-oop dunk, Jon ‘Baby Shaq’ Burgio even got up to throw down a one-handed dunk. Elton Frazier had his share of high flying theatrics, as did Moe Bailey. But the top play of the day had to be the half court bounce pass alley-oop from Elton Frazier to John Papincak who caught the ball in flight and threw down the ridiculous two-handed reverse dunk. Elton Frazier brought home the All-Star MVP award and the SJP Federal Credit Union All-Star pulled out the 122-112 point victory.

Kronies Jamfest 4

Now that Kronies Jamfest 3 is in the books, it is time to get ready for Kronies Jamfest 4, which tips off on Sunday, March 4th. Rosters and league fee are due on or before Wednesday, February 29th. No exceptions. Take the next three weeks to polish up your game and get ready for another great season of Kronies Jamfest: Buffalo’s Premier Basketball League.

The stage is set for Championship Weekend as Team First and the VeryAggressiveGuys advance in the West and Court Justice and R.I.P. Ent advance in the East.

Buffalo, NY- Saturday just may have been the best weekend of Kronies Jamfest yet. Two white knuckle 20 minute play-in games, a triple overtime thriller, and the top two seeds knocked off in the East. In the first play-in game the Billies cruised by Swagged Out, despite a strong finish to the season by Will Castro who led all scorers with 14 points. In the following game number two seed Hit It & Quit It fell to the VeryAggressiveGuys in triple overtime behind a strong game by Mike Bennett, who scored 24 points in the game. After an hour break the Billies were back in action against the number one seeded Team First. After jumping out to a ten point lead, the Billies got cold, allowing Team First to go on a big second half run and cruise into the finals next week against the VeryAggressiveGuys.

James Mallory applies the full court press to Adam Lafleur.

In the 5pm slot R.I.P. Ent faced off against AXA in a twenty minute play-in game, overcoming a nine point deficit to advance to play Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl in the 6:30 game. In the 5:30 game Sponge Bob Square Pants played another BSWA classic against Court Justice. After leading most of the game behind the dominant inside game of Jon Burgio (33 points), Court Justice fought back into the game with an intense full court press, cutting the lead down and eventually pulling off the one-point win to advance to the finals. Next up was the Eastern Conference scoring champion John Papincak, who led number one seed Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl against R.I.P. Ent. In another nail-biter R.I.P. Ent squeaked out a one point victory to advance to the championship next week against Court Justice.

Consolation Bracket Madness

In the East, DJ Dovey Ent beat the Hoosiers in another one point game, but in a strange turn of events the Queen City Stampede delivered the BSWA and Kronies Jamfest their first ever no-show/forfeit. In their place the Hoosiers played a doubleheader against the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls and narrowly pulled out a three point victory to advance to the Consolation Bowl in a rematch against DJ Dovey Ent.

In the Western Conference Healthy Buffalo cruised by the Wolfpack to advance to the Consolation Bowl against Team Rocket, who knocked off hoops unlimited in another close 62-59 point game.

The conclusion of Kronies Jamfest 3 unfolds this Satuday. Will R.I.P. Ent repeat in the East? Can the VeryAggressiveGuys upset number one seed Team First? Find out this Saturday!

Buffalo, NY- The Kronies Jamfest 3 regular season is in the books. In the first game the Hoosiers shocked first place Sponge Bob Square Pants to pick up their second win of the season. It wasn’t the kind of finish to the season that Sponge Bob was hoping for as the loss dropped them to the number two seed, complicating their quest for a championship, while giving the Hoosiers a lot of confidence going into the Consolation bracket. Marc Antecki (17 points) and Dave Hall (20 points) once again led the Hoosiers but got a lot of help from Brian Jasinski (10 points) and Bryan Dorothy (13 points). Sponge Bob was once again led by the dominant inside game of Jon Burgio, but as a team couldn’t knock down shots on the perimeter, allowing the Hoosiers to lock up their second win 68-57.

Hoosiers captain Marc Antecki runs the floor.

In the second game the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls faced off against DJ Dovey Ent. The Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls welcomed the return of leading scorer Zach Rougeux, but were without their starting center Paul Quarcini. Without the presence of Quarcini down low, DJ Dovey Ent big man RJ Faustin had his way, scoring a season high 22 points and leading DJ Dovey Ent to their second win of the season 69-63.

The stakes were high in game three as the winner secured a spot in the playoffs, while the loser was relegated to the Consolation Bracket. Queen City ran into AXA at the wrong time, as they were one of the hottest teams in the second half of the season. Mike Ridge had another phenomenal game, scoring 30 points and earning the Law Offices of Timothy J. Hennessy Player of the Week award. Edvin Ramulic (27 points) had another stellar game for the Queen City Stampede but it wasn’t enough to stop red-hot AXA as they appear to be clicking at just the right time. Final Score 79-75.

Moe Bailey throws it down.

In the Week 9 Game of the Week, Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl looked to make a statement in the final game of the season against a depleted Court Justice team, that was without Brian Walter, Tim Irvin and point guard Eddie Stephens. Moe Bailey (23 points) did his best to keep Court Justice in the game, including throwing down a pair of thunderous dunks. Yet in the end Kronies Jamfest scoring champion John Papincak (27 points) carried Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl to victory and captured the number one seed in the East. Final Score Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl 91, Court Justice 70.

In another highly anticipated match-up Hit It & Quit It faced off against the Billies in a potential post season preview. Unfortunately for the Billies they caught Hit It & Quit It on the wrong day. Sean O’Brien came out firing, scoring 14 of his 16 points in the first half, while Bren Raleigh balanced out the attack with 18 points. Final Score: Hit It & Quit It 61, Billies 47.

In the next game Team First rolled past Swagged Out 109-74. It was just the game they needed, as they locked up the number one seed in the West and entered the post season on a high note. Ron Malicki scored a season high 31 points, while Tariq Bashir (11 points) and Bashir Ansari (11 points) did their damage from behind the arch. The win definitely makes Team First the favorite going into the playoffs, while Swagged Out will look to regroup and hopefully see the return of co-captains Chris Wagner and Mike Cepeda their first round playoff matchup against the Billies.

In the 8pm game Hoops Unlimited played Kevin Kirby and Team Rocket. This one was back and forth all night as both teams looked to finish of the regular season on a high note. Hoops Unlimited was hot from outside as Matt Pagano (6 points), Dan Moreno (8 points) and Kenny Wilson (13 points) all knocked down multiple three-pointers. Lenny Frears (20 points) had another great game for Team Rocket, but it all came down to the final possession as Bryan Dorothy (12 points) had the ball in his hands with only seconds remaining and the chance to win it all. He drew the double team and dished the ball to Kevin Kirby (9 points) who laid it in for the game winning basket. Final Score: Team Rocket 53, Hoops Unlimited 52.

In the final game of the night the Wolfpack came hungry looking to finish the season on a high note, but they had a tall task in front of them as they faced league leading scorer John Bowen and Healthy Buffalo. The Wolfpack’s David Laudero had a breakout performance in the game, complementing a strong defense effort with a season high 22 points. But it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Healthy Buffalo, who came up just one win short of qualifying for the winner’s bracket in the playoffs. The teams will face-off in a rematch next week in the Consolation Bracket, with the winner advancing to the Consolation Bowl on Championship Weekend.

And that’s a wrap on the regular season. This Saturday it is on, as Kronies Jamfest officially enters the home stretch. It’s win or go home. This Saturday we find out which teams will have a chance to play for the Kronies Jamfest title. Which team will have the strength, skill, and determination to hoist the 36″ Kronies Jamfest championship trophy at mid-court? Who will step up when their team needs them most? The action starts this Saturday at 12:30.

All-Star Voting

The question remains. Is it possible to make it through the Kronies Jamfest gauntlet undefeated?

Buffalo, NY- Another season, another season without an undefeated team. Both remaining undefeated teams went down this past weekend. In addition to both undefeated teams falling, all five playoff spots in each division have now been locked up, while the bottom four in each division will battle it out in the Consolation bracket.

In the first game of the day Healthy Buffalo took on a red hot Hit It & Quit It. John Bowen (28 points) of Healthy Buffalo was fired up and ready to go, but Healthy Buffalo didn’t quite have enough fire power to handle the balanced attack and sharp shooting of Hit It & Quit It. Sean O’Brien scored a season high 26 while four other players also reached double figures. The win kept Hit It & Quit It in running for the number one seed in the West. Final Score: Hit It & Quit It 84, Healthy Buffalo 48.

In the second game of the day underachieving Hoops Unlimited took on the Billies, who are playing as good of basketball as any team in the West. Hoops Unlimited captain Dan Moreno played his heart out as usual, but the Billies made quick work of them, jumping out to a 14 point halftime lead. Frank Pieri, the second leading center in All-Star balloting, had another solid game with 16, while Mark Ward dropped 32 points. The Billies clearly appeared to be tuning up for a playoff run, while Hoops Unlimited will try to regroup and make a run at the Consolation Bowl.

In the 3pm game the Wolfpack faced off against Chris Wagner and Swagged Out. Brian Roddey scored 29 points and stayed in the hunt for a scoring title for Swagged Out, while three point specialist Will Castro added another 31 points. David Laudero had his second consecutive 17 point night for the Wolfpack but it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Swagged Out who cruised to a 90-46 point victory.

Ben Walkow leads the VeryAggressiveGuys past Team First.

Next up was one of the two Week 8 Games of the Week as the VeryAggressiveGuys challenged one of the two remaining undefeated teams, Team First. Team First struggled early, missing the guard play of Bashir and Tariq Ansari, while scoring only six points in the first fourteen minutes of play. But like most of their games this season it was only a matter of time before they made a run. In the second half Adrian Wood (10 points) and company picked up the defensive intensity which led to a number of fast break opportunities and closed the gap, but it wouldn’t be enough to derail the the upset as Mike Bennett tied a season high with 22 points and the VeryAggressiveGuys held on for the 52-38 point win.

Marc Antecki leads the Hoosiers to their first win.

In the 5pm game the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls battled the Hoosiers in a potential preview of Consolation bracket match-up. The Hoosiers were still looking for their first win and the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls were in their sights. The Hoosiers were ready to pounce as the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls were without their primary ball handler Zach Rougeux. Marc Antecki (20 points) took advantage right away, scoring on a mix of drives to the basket and mid-range jumpers. Hoosiers leading scorer Dave Hall also had an excellent night with 21 points. David Vanoni (12 points) and Paul Quarcini (15 points) had good games for the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls, but it wouldn’t be enough for the win as the Hoosiers locked up their first win 72-62.

The 6pm game was another potential playoff match-up as R.I.P. Ent took on the Queen City Stampede. R.I.P. Ent was without captain Darcell Thomas, but finally had the front court duo of Joe Kassel and Markus Loder on the court in the same game, taking up space in the middle to allow Phil Lindsay and Mitch Reese the space to do their work on the outside. The game was up for grabs at the half as R.I.P. Ent held onto a slim 30-28 point lead at the break. In the second half R.I.P. Ent took control of the game and was helped by another disappointing collapse by Queen City Stampede sixth man Jon Meyers who received his forth, fifth, and after being ejected, sixth technical of the season. R.I.P. Ent appear to be peaking at just the right time, pulling out the 76-61 point win and will now sit back with a bye the final week of the season and watch to see who they will face in the playoffs.

In the second of two Week 8 Game of the Week, undefeated Court Justice took on Sponge Bob Square Pants, who had Elton Frazier back in the lineup after a four week hiatus. They would need everyone of his 26 points against Court Justice as they looked to unseat the last remaining undefeated team. Big man Jon Burgio had another great game as well, matching a season high with 26 points and winning the Timothy J. Hennessy Player of the Week award, while handing Court Justice their first loss of the season and taking control of first place in the East. Final Score: Sponge Bob 73, Court Justice 72.

In the final game of the night DJ Dovey Ent played Mike Ridge and AXA. After a string of heartbreaking last second losses this season, DJ Dovey Ent were determined to pull out their second win of the season, but AXA led behind the one-two punch of Mike Ridge (26 points) and Shane Canahai (14 points) weren’t about to let that happen as they appear to be jelling in the final stretch of the season. Jordan Vaccaro had a season high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to derail another heartbreaking last second defeat as Mike Ridge scored the game winning basket as time expired. Final Score: AXA 64, DJ Dovey Ent 63.

Week 9 Game of the Week

In a battle for the number two seed Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl plays Court Justice in a preview of their likely first round match-up. This one is sure to be a classic.

Week 8 Western Conference Scoring Leaders: Mark Ward 32, Will Castro 31, Brian Roddey 29, John Bowen 28, Sean O’Brien 26.

Week 8 Eastern Conference Scoring Leaders: Moe Bailey 30, Mike Ridge 26, Jon Burgio 26, Elton Frazier 26, Jordan Vaccaro 24.
