After a two week holiday break Kronies Jamfest is about ready to get back in action for the home stretch. I hope all the BSWA fans, players and supporters enjoyed the holidays. During the holiday break the BSWA got busy on a number of items.
Monday Night League at the Town Boys & Girls Club
On January 30th we will kick off the Town Boys & Girls Club 4-on-4 Basketball League. Registration is now open and there is only room for nine teams. Register now for only $175 (existing teams) or $200 (new teams, includes jerseys)
All-Star Game
We also opened balloting for the Kronies Jamfest All-Star game. Players will be elected to the team based on a 1/3 online, 1/3 player, and 1/3 BSWA vote. All players will receive a limited edition All-Star jersey as shown above. Making the Kronies Jamfest All-Star team could be considered one of WNY’s highest basketball honors.
BSWA v. ARMY Game
Following the All-Star game on Championship weekend will be the BSWA v. ARMY game. The traveling Army team based out of Fort Drum will come to Buffalo to take on a select BSWA team. While the BSWA team will be composed primarily of BSWA alumni, we do have room for a few current players. If you are interested in participating let me know.
To accommodate the ninth team in each division we will increase the number of teams that qualify for the winners bracket in the playoffs to five from four, with the forth and fifth seeds playing a twenty minute play-in game to advance. The winner will then play the number one seed immediately following thereafter.
Scoring Champion
While in Kronies Jamfest past the scoring champion in each division walked away with nothing but bragging rights, we will now award the scoring champion in each division with BSWA swag. Win the scoring title and take your pick of either a BSWA hooded sweatshirt or BSWA long sleeve warmup shirt.
Special Thanks
I would like to thank MVP Network Consulting and Sinatra & Company Realty for making a generous donation to the BSWA to help us get the Monday night Boys & Girls Club league off the ground, in addition to all the players and supporters who have given us one excellent year of basketball in 2011 and who will surely help deliver an even better year in 2012.

Team First squeezes by the Billies to remain undefeated in the West, while Court Justice escapes close call against Zach Rougeux and the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls.
Buffalo, NY- Week 6 may just have been the best day of basketball yet in Kronies Jamfest 3. In the final week before the holiday break there is definitely a playoff mentality in the air. In game one Swagged Out squared off against Hit It & Quit It. Both teams were missing key players as Hit It & Quit It captain Jeff Davis missed another game with a fractured wrist and Swagged Out co-captain missed another because of an undisclosed injury. Swagged Out started out hot and brought a seven point lead into the second half, but in the second half Devin Kelley took over for Hit It & Quit It, scoring 12 of his 21 in the second including the game winning shot. Final Score: Hit It & Quit It 53, Swagged Out 51.
In game two the VeryAggressiveGuys played John Bowen and Healthy Buffalo. Healthy Buffalo kept it close early, but the VeryAggressiveGuys blew it open in the second half as all five starters reached double digits in scoring, led by Jake Walkow who led all scorers with 23 points. Final Score: VeryAggressiveGuys 77, Healthy Buffalo 40.
In the Week 6 Game of the Week, undefeated Team First took on the second place Billies. No one wanted to miss this one as both teams came stocked and loaded and ready to roll with full rosters and subs. Things looked good early on for the Billies as they worked the ball around, got good looks and built an eight point lead at the half. But in the second half Team First turned up the intensity level and fought back into the game behind Carson Ervin (9 points), Ron Malecki (9 points), and captain Bashir Ansari who led all scorers with 13 points. In the end Team First squeezed out the two point victory, 53-51.
In the forth game a shorthanded Team Rocket faced off against the Wolfpack. Team Rocket was once again boosted by the return of Randy Martin who had 43 points in the game, as well as Mark Giordano who scored a career high 31 points. The Wolfpack kept it close in the first half, but let things get away from them in the second half as they struggled to contain Team Rocket’s fast break attack. Final Score: Team Rocket 105, The Wolfpack 46.
In game 5 the Hoosiers were looking to pick up there first win against the Queen City Stampede. Edvin Ramulic stayed hot for the Queen City Stampede with 28 points, while Ramone Alls kicked in 17 points. The Hoosiers got good games out of Dave Hall (23 points) and captain Marc Antecki (18 points), but came up just short in the end, 79-77.
In game 6 Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl took on R.I.P. Ent. Emotions flared in this one as both teams looked to make a statement with a win. John Papincak continued his strong play with 22 points, strengthening his grasp on the scoring title. Mitch Reese played his heart out for R.I.P. Ent leading the team with 22 points, but it wouldn’t prove enough to knock of Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl, who picked up their fifth win of the season, 78-73.
In the 7pm game Sponge Bob Square Pants put in in cruise control against AXA, coasting to a 46-28 halftime lead. Jon Burgio (23 points) and Adam Lafleur (22 points) continued to made their case as the top one-two punch in the BSWA with 45 points combined. AXA made a late run but it wasn’t enough to slow down Sponge Bob who pulled out the win, 76-61.
In the final game of the night the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls were looking for the upset against undefeated Court Justice. Vincent Cerretto (14 points) made his debut for the Tootsie Rolls providing an inside presence as well as another scoring option to complement Zach Rougeux (9 points). The Tootsie Rolls started off hot building a quick lead, but Court Justice fought back to take a two point lead into the half. The second half saw eight lead changes as the game was up for grabs, but Court Justice was able to force back-to-back turnovers in the Tootsie Rolls final two possessions and squeeze out the victory 58-56.
Week 7 Game of the Week
Matt Nagorski and the Queen City Stampede look to stay in the playoff hunt with a big game against league leading scorer John Papincak and Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl. If the Queen City Stampede can get their whole squad together they should have a chance to pull out the W.
Week 6 Eastern Conference Scoring Leaders: Edvin Ramalic 28, Dave Hall 23, Jon Burgio 23, Mitch Reese 22, Adam Lafluer 22.
Week 6 Western Conference Scoring Leaders: Randy Martin 43, Mark Giordano 31, Nick Tydka 25, Jake Walkow 23, Devin Kelley 21.

It might be getting cold outside but the Kronies Jamfest 3 action is just warming up. Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl suffers their first loss, while Court Justice and Team First stay undefeated.
Buffalo, NY- The action in Kronies Jamfest is beginning to reach a fever pitch. In the first game of the day Hoops Unlimited were looking to make a statement against undefeated Team First. Hoops Unlimited took a five point lead into the second half and looked like they might pull off the upset, but Kronies Jamfest newcomer Mike Gompah (15 points), Aaron Wood (9 points), and Trae Irvin (9 points) fought back in the second half to pull off the 48-44 point victory and remain undefeated.
In game two Zach Rougeux (25 points) put the Tootsie Rolls on his back and carried the team to their first victory of the season over Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl. John Papincak scored a season high 32 points but it wasn’t enough to slow down the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls who also got big contributions from Anthony Morreale (17 points) and big-man Paul Quarcini (12 points). Final Score: Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls 72, Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl 65.
In game three Mitch Reese and R.I.P. Ent played AXA. The stakes for this game were high as both teams were looking to overcome a slow starts to their seasons. Mike Ridge (23 points) and Shane Canahai (23 points) led AXA and kept them in the game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a career high 20 points from Phil Lindsey and another 28 from leading scorer Mitch Reese (28 points) who pulled off their third consecutive victory after an 0-2 start to the season.
In the 4pm slot the Billies rolled to their forth win of the season with a big win over the Wolfpack. Wolfpack sharpshooter Jerett Smith scored a season high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced attack of the Billies who had four players reach double figures.
In the Week 5 Game of the Week the Queen City Stampede took on undefeated Court Justice. This match up was full of drama and suspense as Queen City Stampede spark plug Jon Meyers walked off the court and changed into his street clothes at the half after being disappointed with his playing time. James Mallory went off scoring a career high 17 points including a pair of three pointers, while Moe Bailey picked it up in the second half scoring 15 of his 16 points in the second and leading Court Justice to a 4-0 start and sole possession of first place in the East. Final Score 64-56.
In the 6pm game Randy Martin made his season debut for Team Rocket after taking off the first half of the season due to personal reasons. It didn’t take long for Martin to shake off the rust as he led Team Rocket with 22 points in his debut performance with the team. Lenny Frears also had solid game for Team Rocket with 15 points, while Nick DeMonte continued to improve his game for Healthy Buffalo scoring 16 points, including four three pointers in the first half. In the second half Team Rocket fought back and almost pulled off the come from behind victory but fell just short. Final Score: 64-63.
In the 7pm slot the VeryAggressiveGuys cruised past Swagged Out 66-42. Swagged Out has struggled to find it’s footing in the absence of BSWA legend Jerry Shanley. The win kept the VeryAggressiveGuys in the hunt, keeping them within 1.5 games of first place in the division.
In the final game of the night Sponge Bob Square Pants took on DJ Dovey Ent, who have fallen victim to a number of close losses in the past few weeks. Adam Lafluer came out firing for Sponge Bob in his finest performance of the season scoring 30 points with a collection of layups and jump shots and earning Player of the Week honors. James Dovey (11 points) and John Catanzaro (15 points) did their best to keep DJ Dovey Ent in the game, but they couldn’t close this one out. Final Score: Sponge Bob 68, DJ Dovey Ent 64.
Game 6 Game of the Week
