Sponge Bob holds on to defeat R.I.P. Ent after nearly giving up a thirteen point lead.  In the Western Conference Hit It & Quit It squeaks by Team Rocket in defensive thriller.

Buffalo, NY-  It was another excellent week of basketball in week two of Kronies Jamfest 3.  In the opening game of the week Team Rocket faced off against Hit It & Quit It in a defensive throwback similar to ’90′s Knicks/Heat game.  Team Rocket playing without its fearless captain Nicholas Battaglia fell behind early, giving up a nine point lead entering the second half.  But in the second half Nick Tydka stepped it up dropping 9 of his team high 11 points in the half.  In the end it wasn’t enough as Bren Raleigh (12 points) and Sean O’Brien (10 points) held on for their second consecutive victory 34-33.

In game two Bashir Ansari (16 points) and Team First took on Nick Lange and The Wolfpack.  The Wolfpack was a little thin for week two missing a few of their key players, but they came out and fought nonetheless led by the hot hand of Nick Lange (19 points) and John Mis (14 points).  In the end the run-and-gun attack of Team First was too much as they rolled up their second win to start the season 2-0.

Dan Moreno of Hoops Unlimited drives for two of his twenty points.

In game three Swagged Out made their KJ3 debut in a match-up against Hoops Unlimited and captain Dan Moreno.  Will Castro was looking to make a statement in his first game for Swagged Out leading all scorers with 25 points and doing his damage from inside and out.  Dan Moreno (20 points) did his best to keep it close, but it wasn’t enough as Swagged Out pulled out the win 62-54.

Next up was DJ Dovey Ent versus Matt Nagorski and the Queen City Stampede.  DJ Dovey Ent jumped out to a quick 12 point lead in this one as they used there size advantage on the interior to control the game in the paint, complemented by the outside shooting touch of John McKissick who had three three pointers in the first half.  The second half was a different story as Edvin Ramulic stepped up the intensity, scoring 14 of his 23 points in the half and leading the Queen City Stampede to a 68-67 comeback victory.

In game five John Papincak and Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl were looking to make a statement against Marc Antecki and the Hoosiers.  The one-two punch of John Papincak (24 points) and Glen Lomax (17 points) continued

to wreak havoc on opposing defenses as Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl cruised to their second straight victory against the shorthanded Hoosiers, 94-54.

In the 6pm game the VeryAggressiveGuysInterestedInNotAlwaysLosing squared off against the Billies as both teams were looking to start the season 2-0.  The Billies were led by big man Frank Pieri (15 points) and Mark Ward (16 points), but it wasn’t enough as Kronies Jamfest newcomer Ben Walkow went off for a game high 26 points making his mark early and finishing strong, carrying the VeryAggressiveGuys to a 65-55 point victory and a place among the top of the Western Conference.

Kronies Jamfest newcomer Ben Walkow

The seventh game of the night was a rematch of the Kronies Jamfest 2 championship game as Sponge Bob Square Pants looked to avenge their loss in the championship last season.  Sponge Bob started hot as Jon Burgio was nearly unstoppable scoring 16 of his 26 points in the first half, taking a 45-34 point lead into the half.  But in the second half R.I.P. Ent stepped it up, closing the gap to four points with three minutes left in what looked like a repeat of last season’s championship game.  This time Sponge Bob would hold on for the win, 70-65.

In the final game of the night Court Justice took on Steve Fretthold and AXA.  Mike Ridge came back strong after sitting out the summer league with 23 points, while Knonies Jamfest newcomer Shane Canahai made an impressive debut with a game high 26 points.  But it wasn’t enough to overcome the balance and depth of Court Justice who were led by Moe Bailey who scored a team high 22 points and jumped out to a 2-0 start with the 70-64 point victory.

Game Three Game of the Week

In the 7pm game Team Rocket will look to avoid an 0-3 start against the undefeated VeryAggressiveGuys.  The VeryAggressiveGuys have looked sharp early on, but would be foolish to look past Mark Giordano and Team Rocket as they continue to gel.

Week 2 Scoring Leaders:

Eastern Conference Scoring Leaders: Jon Burgio 26, Shane Canahai 26, John Papincak 24, Edvin Ramalic 23, Mike Ridge 23

Kronies Jamfest 3 gets underway as Court Justice avenges last seasons playoff loss and Healthy Buffalo’s John Bowen makes an impressive debut with 26 points.

Buffalo, NY-  As the hype began to recede and nerves began to calm, Kronies Jamfest 3 was officially underway.  The third season of Buffalo’s #1 basketball brought with it more explosive dunks, eighteen teams, over 150 players, and all the bells and whistles one would expect from leagues past.

Jim Dovey of DJ Dovey Ent

Game one featured DJ Dovey Ent against Marc Antecki and the Hoosiers.  Antecki and company were looking to bounce back after last season’s early exit from the playoffs with a big game against DJ Dovey Ent, but Dave Kean and company had other plans.  Dave Kean led DJ Dovey Ent with 16 points in an impressive season debut, while Jordan Vaccaro (11 points) and RJ Faustin (14 points) balanced out the attack.  After winning the scoring crown in KJ2, Marc Antecki got off to a hot start in week one with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to carry the Hoosiers to victory.  Final Score: DJ Dovey Ent 60, Hoosiers 52.

The next game featured a couple of Kronies Jamfest newcomers as Hit It & Quit It battled it out with The Wolfpack.  Sean O’Brien made a strong statement in his Kronies Jamfest debut, leading Hit It & Quit It with 24 points, while Chris Smith (19 points) and Tommy Gray (17 points) pitched in with strong performances.  In the second half The Wolfpack fought back but it wasn’t enough to overcome their first half deficit.  Final Score:  Hit It & Quit It 77, The Wolfpack 24.

Game three was the highly anticipated match up between Jon Burgio and Sponge Bob Square Pants and John Papincak who returned for his second season of Kronies Jamfest with a new team, Swoopin’ In On Ya’ Girl.  Sponge Bob jumped out to a quick lead behind the strong play of Elton Frazier (28 points), but things took a turn for the worst in the second half as starting point guard Brian Rowlinson went down with a twisted knee, forcing Sponge Bob to play the remainder of the game 4-on-5.  Swoopin’ In a Ya’ Girl seized the opportunity and closed the eleven point gap as time winded down, making the winning free throw with one second remaining.  Final Score:  Swoopin’ In On Ya’ Girl 74, Sponge Bob Square Pants 73.

John Papincak defends Elton Frazier

Game four featured Matt Nagorski and the Queen City Stampede against Kronies Jamfest newcomers Joe Nezezon and the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls.  Zach Rougeux made an impressive debut for the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls with 14 points and a number of impressive moves to the basket, but it wasn’t enough to derail the Queen City Stampede who were led behind the strong play of captain Matt Nagorski (20 points) who pulled out the win 65 to 55.

Next up were the Billies who faced off against Nick Battaglia and Team Rocket.  The Billies came out firing as Mark Ward jumped out to another strong start in KJ3 with 21 points.  Team Rocket fought hard behind the tight defensive pressure of Nick Battaglia and Kevin Kirby and the offensive firepower of Lenny Frears (11 points), big man Greg Arnold (12 points), sharpshooter Marc Giordano (10 points), and Mike Capuana (10 points).  In the end though the Billies got off on the right foot in their quest for a Kronies Jamfest championship with a 54-36 point victory.

In game six Kronies Jamfest newcomers Team First took on Franklin Jackson and Healthy Buffalo.  John Bowen had an amazing game in his debut with 26 points, while Franklin Jackson (9 points) and Gary Lee (10 points) pitched in to keep Healthy Buffalo in the game.  But it wasn’t enough to stop Bashir Ansari and Team First who got off to a hot start in week one, pulling out the win 75-57.

In game seven Hoops Unlimited challenged Jasen Ineson and the VeryAggressiveGuysInterestedInNotAlwaysLosing.  Hoops Unlimited’s Kenneth Wilson established himself as a top perimeter scorer in Kronies Jamfest with six three pointers in his inaugural game, while the Very Aggressive Guys fought back with a balanced offensive attack led by Jasen Ineson (13 points) and pulled out the victory 48-40.

The final game of week one was the highly anticipated rematch of last season’s semi-final between R.I.P. Ent and Court Justice.  In Kronies Jamfest 2, R.I.P. Ent pulled out a nail-biter, white-knuckled, one point victory against Brian Walter and Court Justice.  The rematch would end up a bit different as Court Justice came out blazing hot led by Tim Irvin (17 points) and Kronies Jamfest newcomer MJ Rutlidge (16 points) who electrified the crowd with a barrage of high flying slam dunks.  Jeremy Rowe scored a career high 22 points for R.I.P. Ent but it wasn’t enough for the win.  Final Score:  Court Justice 78, R.I.P. Ent 67.

Week 2 Game of the Week

In a rematch of last season’s championship game R.I.P. Ent takes on Elton Frazier and Sponge Bob Square Pants.  R.I.P. Ent capped off  a remarkable post season run in KJ2 with a stunning come from behind victory over Sponge Bob Square Pants.  Both teams are looking to bounce back after losing in week one.  The loser will be faced with an 0-2 record and an uphill battle to the playoffs.  This is definitely the game to watch in week two.
