The Tub Men shock Swagged Out, while R.I.P. Ent cruises past Papa Jake’s.

Buffalo, NY-  This past Sunday the hopes and dreams of six teams in Kronies Jamfest 2 came to an abrupt, disappointing conclusion as the field of teams left competing for a championship was trimmed from fourteen to eight.

In the first game of the day Swagged Out was stunned by the Wacky Waivable Inflatable Arm Flailing Tub Men 51-42.  The Tub Men were led by the emotional return of team captain Jon Matchette who returned from a knee injury suffered in week three of the regular season.  Swagged Out had their full roster in place for the first time all season but seemed to lack the cohesion and intensity that the Tub Men brought to the court.  Co-captains Mike Cepeda and Chris Wagner will have to put their Kronies Jamfest championship dreams on hold until at least next season as the Tub Men look to continue their pursuit of a championship next week against first place Norfolk N’ Chance.

In game 2 Sponge Bob Square Pants faced off against Paper Beetch.  Sponge Bob was again without captain Jon Burgio, but managed to pull off the victory behind an incredible second half shooting performance by Andy Marlinski, who scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half and Elton Frazier, who scored 14 of his 17 points in the second.  It was a disappointed end to the season for Jordan Vaccaro who looked to become a two-time Kronies Jamfest Champion.

In game 3 Nick Pfohman and the Flint Tropics took on Tim Book and Ebony & Ivory in a feisty, emotional contest.  Flint Tropics big man Joe Kassel fouled out halfway through the second half, while Ebony & Ivory captain earned himself an ejection for the second consecutive season.  Randy Martin (17 points) put on an inspiring performance for Ebony & Ivory despite suffering a dislocated finger in the game, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the balanced attack of the Flint Tropics who got big contributions from Steve Allen (18 points), Andy Tate (13 points), Andy Pfohman (7 points), and Nick Pfohman (22 points).  Final Score: Flint Tropics 74, Ebony & Ivory 59.

In the forth game of the night R.I.P. Ent took on Papa Jake’s.  Papa Jake’s kept it close early, but in the second half R.I.P. Ent blew the game open behind the hot hand of Darcell Thomas (22 points) who continued his excellent play and made up for the loss of Mitch Reese who suffered a broken hand in the final week of the season. Next week R.I.P. Ent will take on division champions Court Justice who look to avenge a regular season loss to R.I.P Ent.

Round one of the playoffs was capped off with a battle between the Billies and Healthy Buffalo.  Healthy Buffalo was shorthanded but got another monster game out of Terence ‘Bermuda’ Dill who scored 31 points in the contest, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Billies who were led by Frank Pieri (19 points) and Mark Ward (25 points) and pulled out the win, 76-67.
