There were no major upsets after a hard fought first round of the B League playoffs at the APEX last Tuesday. First seeded Beals on Wheels decisively beat the valiant Shining Force despite a heroic 18-point effort from Jon Zubin. 5 out of 7 Beals players turned in a better than 10-point effort to bring the final score in at 74 – 39.
Rimshots’ Tim Reagan matched number 2 seed Gimmie Sum A Dat Juices’ Kenny Campbell with a 23-point game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Juice’s depth of offense. In the end, they fell by 20 points.
It came down to the final seconds in a nail-biter between 3rd and 4th seeds Solid Basketball Group and The Fastbreakers. Travell Scales’ 18-point game was the deciding factor as his team edged out The Fastbreakers 44 – 40.
In the final game of the evening, Heath Block Club defeated Zeener with a devastating 24-point effort from Deonte Paige. Paired with a solid team defensive effort, all players on Zeener were held to less than 10 points which put the end score at 58-34.
