It is once again Opening Day here in Buffalo.  This time, it’s the inaugural season of Healthy Buffalo’s Co-Ed Softball League.

The first season of the league will feature six teams: Guard Hard, The Great Bambinos, Healthy Buffalo, Wingerz, Monki Business, and Team Red, White, and Booze. Games will be hosted at the beautiful Veterans Stadium and Memorial Field on Friday nights.

Week one opened up on June 8, with a doubleheader at Veterans Stadium with the matchup of Kirstie Dlugosz’s Guard Hard vs. Corey Carden’s The Great Bambinos. Following that, Chas Kirsch’s Healthy Buffalo took on Devin Chavanne’s Wingerz. At Memorial Field, Rodney Rodriguez’s Monki Business faced-off against Joe O’Connor’s Team Red, White, and Booze.

The proceedings began with Guard Hard and The Great Gambinos. Guard Hard jumped out to huge lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Batting around the order by bombarding The Great Bambinos pitching with a plethora of extra-base hits. Once the game started to move along, The Great Bambinos started to settle in, but the deficit was far too wide. Guard Hard went on to win 18-6.

Healthy Buffalo and the Wingerz started the late game just as the sun went down and were now under the lights. The Wingerz jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first. Healthy Buffalo would later answer with a small rally to get within two runs. The Wingerz would then have a rally of their own, doubling their score. The lead became too much to overcome in the late stages of the game. The Wingerz would defeat Healthy Buffalo 17-5.
