Sponge Bob drops both games in doubleheader. Court Justice takes control of first place in League A.
Buffalo, NY- Another summer Sunday, another explosive day of basketball in Kronies Jamfest 2. In game one Paper Beetch faced off against Sponge Bob Square Pants who were looking for their first win since game one. Paper Beetch was without it’s leading scorer John Papincak, while Sponge Bob was without captain and big man Jon Burgio. Sponge Bob was held in the game behind the strong play of Adam LaFleur who led the team with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a hot Paper Beetch team, who won the game 55-40. In the second game of their double header Sponge Bob played Papa Jake’s who were coming off a tough loss against Shining Force in Week 5. Adam LaFleur again played an excellent game scoring 30 points, but the one-two punch of Marc Antecki (26 points) and Dave Hall (18 points) helped Papa Jake’s pull this one out with a one point victory, 63-62.
In Game 3, R.I.P. Ent faced off in a highly anticipated game against the Shining Force, who were looking for their third consecutive win after starting the season 0-3. Both teams bring a great deal of intensity and balanced scoring which had many people circling this game on the schedule at the start of the season. Darcell Thomas (19 points) had another great game and helped R.I.P. Ent jump off to a ten point lead at the half, but in the second half the Shining Force fought back taking the lead with eight minutes remaining, which they held on to to, pulling out a 59-56 point victory.
The Flint Tropics came out firing in Game 4 led by Andy Pfohman (13 points), Nick Pfohman (19 points) and big man Joe Kassel (18 points) who combined for 50 points in the game. The WWIAFTM were without point guard Gian Fernandez and his absence was evident on the offensive end as they failed to keep up with the Flint Tropics, who won the game 70-51.
In the 6pm game Swagged Out looked to bounce back from their first loss of the season against the Billies. They jumped out to a quick start and didn’t look back. Swagged Out had four players in double figures led by Jerry Shanley with 26 points and got back on track with a 74-58 point victory to maintain a tie atop the division with Norfolk N’ Chance.
In the 7pm game the top two teams in League A, Court Justice and Victor’s, faced off for control of their division. Chris Watson had a monster game for Victor’s scoring a season high 24 points, but the multiple offensive weapons for Court Justice were to much for Victor’s to slow down. Final Score: Court Justice 80, Victor’s 63.
In the final game of the night Healthy Buffalo tried to slow down Norfolk N’ Chance. Norfolk N’ Chance got out to an early lead but in the second half Healthy Buffalo staged a late run cutting a 14 point lead down to three points capped off by a big three pointer by Gerald Slack with two minutes remaining. But Dean Antalik (31 points) and Jon Plail (26 points) responded with a strong finish to pull out the win 72-62.
