R.I.P. Ent v. DJ Dovey Ent: Instant Classic

Another great day of basketball as two games go to overtime, AXA shows signs of life, Brian Roddey and John Bowen go for 35, and Court Justice and Team First stay undefeated.

Buffalo, NY-  After a couple weeks off for the holidays, Kronies Jamfest 3 returned with a vengeance.  The third season of Kronies Jamfest just may go down as the best yet.  In game one R.I.P. Ent took on DJ Dovey Ent.  DJ Dovey Ent was desperate for the win as it tried to get back in the playoff hunt, while R.I.P. Ent was looking to wrap up the final playoff spot.  DJ Dovey Ent was pumped up and ready to go as Jon McKissock made his triumphant return to the lineup after missing the last few weeks.  DJ

Dovey Ent jumped out to the quick lead and led for most of the game but let the lead slip away as time winded down behind the sharpshooting of Phil Lindsay (24 points) and Mitch Reese (18 points) who hit the game tying shot as time expired in regulation. Reese had the ball in his hand as the clock winded down in OT with a chance to win it and delivered with a nice floater from the baseline to give R.I.P. Ent the win, 65-63.

In game two, AXA squared off against the Pick N’ Tootsie Rolls, who were coming off a heartbreaking loss against Court Justice in Week 6.  AXA came out on fire in this one as Shane Canahai (36 points) and Mike Ridge (32 points) provided a nearly unstoppable one-two punch, while newcomer Kevin Roth provided an inside presence that had been missing in the beginning of the season.  Zach Rougeux (16 points) and Paul Quarcini (14 points) played well for the Pick N’ Tootise Rolls but it wasn’t enough to stop AXA who pulled out the win 88-61.

Next up was Swaged Out who tried to hold off league leading scorer John Bowen and Healthy Buffalo.  Bowen (35 points) did his best to keep the team in it, but the combination of Will Castro (26 points) doing damage from the perimeter and Brian Roddey (35 points) having his way in the interior was too much for Healthy Buffalo to handle.  Final Score: Swagged Out 85, Healthy Buffalo 74.

In the Week 7 game of the week the Queen City Stampede tried to slow down John Papincak and Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl.  Queen City Stampede got their best performance yet out of John Greer, who scored 22 points and displayed extreme accuracy in his shooting, while Edvin Ramulic (22 points) had another fine game for the Stampede.  John Papincak led all scorers with 28, while Tom Ruffino kicked in a season high 19 points.  But the Queen City Stampede came out on top with a 84-76 point win, as both teams jockey for playoff position and are likely to meet again come playoff time.

Next up was Hit It & Quit It who looked to stay hot against Hoops Unlimited, who were eager to prove they are better than their record indicates.  By halftime Hit It & Quit It took a commanding 38-19 lead behind the sharp shooting of Tommy Gray (16 points), but Hoops Unlimited weren’t about to lay down and give up.  In the second half they tightened up their defense, sped things up on offense and fought their way back into the game forcing the game into overtime.  But like much of their season, they came up just short in the end as Hit It & Quit It pulled out the victory in OT, 55-53.

Moe Bailey throwing down the two-handed alley-oop dunk.

In the 6pm game the Hoosiers were looking to pick up their first win against undefeated Court Justice.  Moe Bailey made his case for the All-Star game with a game high 25 points including a thunderous two-handed alley-oop dunk from Tim Irvin.  The Hoosiers kept it close behind a strong game from Dave Hall (25 points) but it wasn’t enough to pull off the upset as Court Justice kept their undefeated season alive 79-71.

Jasen Ineson goes for two of his 18 points against the Wolfpack.

In the 7pm game the VeryAggressiveGuys took on the Wolfpack, who were also looking to pick up their first win of the season.  David Laudero did his best for the Wolfpack scoring a season high 17 points, while displaying a tenacity and passion that has been missing from the Wolfpack for most of the season, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the balanced attack of the VeryAggressiveGuysInterestedInNotAlwaysLosing.  Mike Bennett scored a game high 22 points, while Ben Walkow (14 points), Jay Ineson (18 points), and Jake Walkow (13 points) all reached double digits in scoring.  Final Score: VeryAggressiveGuys 79, Wolfpack 33.

In the final game of the night Team Rocket was looking to keep their playoff hopes alive against Bashir Ansari and undefeated Team First.  Team Rocket kept it within striking distance throughout most of the game but could never quite get ahead, desperately missing the presence of mid-range assassin Mark Giordano who missed the game for personal reasons.  Team First once again played as their name indicates, with a balanced attack, with no weak link, and solid defense.  With the win Team First also kept their undefeated season in tact.  Final Score: Team First 55, Team Rocket 45.

Week 8 Game of the Week

Week 8 is too action packed to declare a single game of the week, as Sponge Bob takes on undefeated Court Justice in the East and the VeryAggressiveGuys take on take on Team First in the West.  Will either team remain undefeated going into the final week of the regular season?

Week 7 Eastern Conference Scoring Leaders: Shane Canahai 36, Mike Ridge 32, John Papincak 28, Moe Bailey 25, Dave Hall 25.

Week 7 Western Conference Scoring Leaders: John Bowen 35, Brian Roddey 35, Will Castro 26, Mike Bennett 22, Jasen Ineson 18.
