CKNY and Sponge Bob advance in the East, while JLin & The Temptations will face Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy for the finals in the West.
Buffalo, NY- After an enthralling and challenging season, all four tickets to the finals have been punched. The semis in the West were rematches of two fantastic regular season matches. The first one between the VeryAggressiveGuys and Pimpin’Ain’t Easy was not quite as good as the regular season matchup, where Lenny Frears banked in a long three-pointer as time expired, but it was still a pretty good one. The frontcourt of Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy led the squad to victory in this one as Brandon Dudek (12 points), Troy Langworthy (13 points) and Clayton Hess (14 points) were too much for the VeryAggressiveGuys to handle as they pulled out the 54-50 win to advance to the finals.
In the second game of Western Conference action JLin & The Temptations played the Fastbreakers after knocking them off in double OT in the regular season. Shawn Satarian had a stellar game, scoring 30 of his teams 59 points, but it wasn’t enough to hold of JLin & The Temptations who were led by Marquis Ware (11 points) and Cyman Pratt (20 points) in the 60-59 win. The win sets up a finals between two contrasting styles of speed versus size.
The first game of play in the East featured what is now perhaps the greatest rivalry going in the Champions League as Sponge Bob, dreaming of capturing their first title, squared off against their nemesis Court Justice. This one played out according to script as it was a feisty and tightly fought contest throughout. Jon Burgio, fresh off of capturing his first scoring title, scored 18 of his 29 points in the first half and looked nearly unstoppable. Despite his efforts Sponge Bob still trailed by three at the half. In the second half the game continued to sea-saw back and forth before Sponge Bob finally wrapped up the win and got past what some analysts believe was the biggest obstacle to their first title in franchise history.
In the final game of the night Dave Hall and CKNY squared off against a red hot Buffalo’s Finest team. As with most of the games of the night, this was another chippy game as both teams clearly understood what was at stake. CKNY jumped out to a big start and didn’t look back on their way to a 66-54 victory. Next week is their biggest test yet as they will play Sponge Bob Square Pants for the opportunity to bring home a championship.
The finals will be played this Sunday at 3pm. Stop by to bear witness to the conclusion of Buffalo’s #1 basketball leagues and see who will bear the target on their back in season eight. This season’s banquet/season ending party will take place after Saturday’s Dream Team versus Buffalo Warriors game at 9 pm at the Knights of Columbus. We hope to see everyone there.
