Burgio drops 51 in a loss and the VeryAggressiveGuys roll the Billies in the first ever Father’s Day tribute week in Healthy Buffalo history.
Buffalo, NY- In game one of action of week two, Full Clip recovered from their week one loss against YAO KNOW WHAT I MING with a monster victory over the Buffalo Braves. Jon Marsh (25 points) led a nearly unstoppable offensive attack as Full Clip took a 42-17 lead into the second half and then finished strong for the 87-41 win.
Game 2 was perhaps the first game in Champions League history to be played entirely 4-on-4. Jon Burgio tied the single game scoring record with 51 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced attack of Swoopin’ In On Ya Girl, who were led by Dean Antalik (38 points) and Dave Hall (28 points) in the 112-90 win.
In the 3pm game YAO KNOW WHAT I MING stayed hot against the Spartans, who were coming off a miraculous OT win in week one. Joe Coppola dusted off his Healthy Buffalo jersey and returned to Champions League action in stride, dropping a game high 27 points for YAO KNOW WHAT I MING, while leading his team to victory, 85-72.
In game four, Concrete went down hard to the Raw Dawgs, suffering a morale deflating loss 82-41. The Raw Dawgs were led by Jason Mang who led all scorers with 26 points and Johnny Dawvitz who chipped in another 22 points.
In the fifth game of the day the Fastbreakers had a chance to pad their stats and lock up another win, as R.I.P. Ent was nowhere to be found. Shawn Satarian scored a game high 38 points, while Charles Thomas chipped in another 31 points to lead the Fastbreakers to their second win of the season, 94-90.
In the first dose of League B action, Healthy Buffalo took on Nick Pfohman and the Flint Tropics. Jordan Bass led the Flint Tropics with 23 points, but the Tropics were unable to hold off the balanced attack of Healthy Buffalo who were led by John Bowen (16 points) and Brian Walter (14 points) in the 60-58 win.
In the 7pm game Team First locked up their second win of the season against The U.H. Will Castro led The U.H. with 22 points, but they were unable to slow down the balanced attack of Team First, who are looked to recapture the magic of their first season in the league. Adrian Wood (24 points) and Mike Gompah (22 points) did the brunt of the damage for Team First in the 80-66 win.
The Shiller Park Boyz looked to carry their momentum from week one into a tough matchup against Reloaded in the eighth game of the day. Reloaded kept it close most of the way behind the strong play of Tom Kowalski (14 points) and Dennis Frajdofer (13 points). But the Shiller Park Boyz came through with their second consecutive win to start the season 2-0 and a share of first place in the division.
Next up was Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy who were coming off a big loss against the Shiller Park Boyz. They would be without Clayton Hess who had to sit a game following his ejection in week one. The Looney Toons put on an inspiring effort, but were unable to keep up with Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy who had a balanced attack with all of their players scoring at least eight points. Pimpin’ Ain’t easy got back to the .500 mark with the win, while the Looney Toons will have to wait until week three for a chance to get their first win.
The final game of the night featured a classic Champions League matchup as the Billies faced off against the VeryAggressiveGuys. It was expected to be a very close game, but turned out to be a pretty easy win for the VeryAggressiveGuys. The VeryAggressiveGuys jumped out to a 10 point lead at the half and then continued to lay it on in the second half to pull out the 67-53 victory and maintain a share of first place in the division.
